Kolhapur Central Excise Commissionerate is responsible for collection of Union Excise Duties on goods manufactured and services rendered by service providers registered within its geographical jurisdiction. The Commissionerate functions under Pune Central Excise Zone headed by the Chief Commissioner Central Excise, Pune. The Department of Central Excise operates under the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India. The apex body of the department is the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC), Ministry of Finance, Government of India, New Delhi.

 The present jurisdiction of Kolhapur Central Excise Commissionerate was notified through notification no. 14/2002 dated 8/3/2002 Central Excise (N.T). It started functioning in its present form from 01/11/2002 onwards. The Commissionerate was originally known as Pune II Central Excise Commissionerate and its Headquarters was located in Pune.  It shifted to Kolhapur on 15/04/2009.             The jurisdiction of Kolhapur Commissionerate consists of five districts of Maharashtra namely Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. The Commissionerate is divided in to six divisions. Each division is divided into Ranges as under:
