The Central Excise & Customs
Commissionerate is responsible
for collection of Union Excise
duties on the manufactured
goods and Customs duties on
goods imported into the
country.
The Central Excise & Customs
Commissionerate is responsible
for collection of Union Excise

goods imported into the

These duties form the biggest
source of tax revenue for the
Central Government and the
Central Excise duties form the
single largest source of
Government revenue.
The Department of Central
Excise and Customs comes under
the Department of Revenue,
Ministry of Finance.
The apex body of the
Department is the Central
Board of Excise and Customs
(CBEC), which comprises of six
members and is headed by the
Chairman. Administratively,
the entire country is divided
into Commissionerate of
Central Excise and Customs.
Each Commissionerate has a
well defined jurisdiction and
is headed by a Commissioner:
* Chief
Commissioner, Customs and
Central Excise, Pune.
* The Commissioner, Central
Excise, Pune-I, Pune-II &
Pune-III Commissionerate.
* The Commissioner , Customs,
Pune Commissionerate.
* The
Commissioner Appeals, Pune-I, Pune-II
& Pune-III
The Pune-II
Commissionerate started
functioning since 1997, after
bifurcation of Pune
Commissionerate. The area of
Pune-II Commissionerate
consists of 5 districts of
Maharashtra, namely

1) Satara 2)
Sangli 3) Kolhapur 4)
Ratnagiri 5) Sindhudurg.
The major
commodities of Pune-II
Commissionerate are Sugar,
Cement, PVC, Tobacco & Iron &
steel.
Major units in Pune –II
Commissionerate are Sugar
factories, Finolex Industries
Ltd. Birla Cement, Narmada
Cement, & Usha Ispat.
Pune-II Commissionerate has
been reorganized and w.e.f.
01.11.2002,Solapur Division
has been merged with Pune-III
Commissionerate.
Kolhapur Division has been
reorganized as Kolhapur-I &
Kolhapur-II Division.
Similarly
Sangli
Division has been reorganized
and bifurcated in Sangli and
Ichalkaranji Division.
At present there are 6
Divisions in Pune-II
Commissionerate namely Satara, Ichalkaranji, Sangli,
Kolhapur-I, Kolhapur-II &
Ratnagiri Divisions.
